About Melissa Jacobsen
Born and raised in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, I have been creating art and crafting as long as I can remember. Almost every "natural artist" can remember that moment where they realized, "Hey, I can draw!" Mine was in fourth grade for a project where we had to draw the person sitting across from us. While everyone else was drawing stick figures, my sketch captured facial features and detailed color patterns in my neighbor's clothing. From that moment on, there was no turning back. I continued to impress art teachers through my required education (my last art class was in 8th grade) and I worked at refining my talent. By the time I was in college, my artwork had gained me recognition with local musicians, and it was used in promotions for various campus events. Soon after, I was using my artistic skills to generate a little bit of "side income," selling pieces to family and friends. Only recently have I started taking requests and custom orders on a wider scale, but I'm loving it! I've also recently decided to start up painting, beginning with acrylics and oils. Sure, I'm not quite an expert, but I like my work, and the best way to learn...is to DO!
In addition to creating pieces that I post here, I do create custom pieces. If you are looking for a unique gift that comes from the heart, a custom art piece is a perfect idea. Visit my facebook page and become a fan at Melissa Goodrich: Independent Artist to see examples of my custom pieces. If you are interested in talking with me about custom work, send me an email!
